The Flying Elk, Mälartorget 15. One of Stockholm’s most awarded cooks has opened this pub with well-cooked food, proper pub grub. Their ambitions is to be the Old Towns living room – think the have succeeded with that J. 3 minutes walk from Castanea hostel.

Gondolen, Slussen. Order a well mixed drink or a glass of wine in the bar of the Gondolen. Relaxing in a leather armchair and reflecting over how night falls over the city and water is hard to beat. 6 minutes walk from Castanea.

Restaurant Pelikan, Blekingegatan 40. One of Stockholm’s oldest restaurants. Serve Swedish home-style food. Reasonable prices. You will not be disappointed.

Meatballs for the peopleNytorgsgatan 30. Fun and tasty.  From traditional Swedish meatballs to salmon -, vegetarian-, elk-,  boar-, turkey, rain deer or pork. Every day different sorts. Also take away. Take bus 3 direct from the Old Town  to Nytorgsgatan.

Swedes love to “fika” (have coffee/tea and hang around):

Vetekatten, Kungsgatan 55. A classic, a must to be visited. They have a bakery, pastry shop, chocolate manufacturing and cold buffet dishes. An “out-of-the ordinary” café.

Johan & Nyström, Swedenborgsgatan 7, Odengatan 62 and Norrlandsgatan 20. A swedish chain of cafes serving filter coffee, espresso, ground filter and many other sorts. And tea. Was awarded Best café in Sweden” by White Guide a couple years ago.
